WEGV-LP is created to promote greater diversity in media as well as support for independent music and local
voices on the airwaves of "Tree Town, USA". We're particularly interested in providing access to traditionally underrepresented audiences including, African-American and Multicultural families, women and seniors. WEGV is a program of the non profit Make This World Foundation.
In January 2017 our signal went on air for the first time from the frequency at 102.3FM. This year we also launched our Broadcast Bootcamp summer learning program to teach media production to adults and children throughout the community. We reached more than 100 students from Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Detroit. We're now raising funds to cover the installation of our antenna and secure equipment for our first on air studio to begin broadcasting live hosted local programs.
Here’s an example of what your donation can do:
gift will cover either one year membership in the African American Public Radio Consortium or National Federation of Community Broadcasters or one year’s affiliate dues for the Pacifica Radio Network which is currently absent from Ann Arbor airwaves.
level donation allows us to provide field recording gear for a Broadcast Bootcamp site partner including microphone, cables and audio editing software.
buys one studio microphone and stand set to record live local programs. The microphone is the primary tool for amplifying the voice and without which making live radio would be nearly impossible.
donation offsets travel costs between sites for a Broadcast Bootcamp instructor. This past summer we conducted 12 media training sessions with partners in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Detroit at no cost to participants.
